Tokyo Shenanigans

My semi-fogotten inner-nerd rose to the surface in Tokyo when I caught up with some old friends.

Tsukiji Fish Market
It was my first time at this world-famous market, and possibly the last.  They're relocating soon, due to the insane number of people.  Instead of 5am, Chris, Winchelle and I went around lunchtime, and it was still packed.

Final Fantasy Cafe - Eorzea
Winchelle and I were particularly excited about this part of our weekend, considering we've been massive Final Fantasy fans for many, many years.  But although the place had a kind of beauty about it...

...and it was nice to see some of the decor reflecting core elements of the series...

...and the themed food kind of looked cool...

...we were ultimately disappointed with the experience.  We felt they didn't go all-in, and we were left wanting something that more closely evoked our strong feelings about the Final Fantasy franchise.

Meeting up with Tahlia
In a strange coincidence, Tahlia was visiting Tokyo on the same weekend, so we caught up at a market selling loads of anime-themed merchandise.

Owl Cafe
This is actually a thing - though I would argue the "cafe" part is questionable, considering they don't serve food or drinks.  And there are no tables.  It was basically a room with owls perched around the walls and some benches in the middle where you could sit down and hold one.  It was a new experience for me, and I actually enjoyed it more than the Final Fantasy cafe.

Karaoke
After a dinner of soba and craft beer, the four of us had an epic session of karaoke.

When the place closed at 5am and we got kicked out, the sun was already in the sky.

Shounen Jump Indoor Theme Park
And now my inner-nerd was really coming out!  Shounen Jump is Japan's best-selling manga magazine, and we got to visit areas based on some of our favourite manga/anime.  It was a really fun time.
